Alcohol abuse in teenagers

There are some things that alcohol slowly but surely steals; freedom, money, tranquility of mind and eventually life. The nuisance of alcoholism is so pronounced that more than 700,000 people in the United States get addiction treatment every day.

While alcoholism has often been flaunted as a style statement and a habit of the rich and the famous in Hollywood to add glamour to the movies, the impact on the hoi-polloi has been disturbing.

Teenagers have taken to alcohol in typical Hollywood fashion. Actions such as guzzling the entire bottle of alcohol seem chic in reel life, but in real life they disturb the entire fabric of the society and create widespread mayhem.

For the individual teenager per se, the liver can easily become overloaded due to this self-inflicted abuse. The addiction to alcohol at an early age only expedites liver cirrhosis which means an invitation to early death by the teen.

Imagine the future of a nation where the young blood enjoys being tipsy and the only reprimand it receives is a stern ‘no’ from the parents. The need of the hour is obviously much more.

Akin to various drug addictions, the dependence on alcohol is showing no signs of dawdling. Health care has had to spend millions on alcohol rehab, hospitalization bills, and chemical dependency therapy each year.

To arrest this problem at an early stage, parent’s enhanced involvement can prove to be the best form of alcohol rehab. Clear communique by parents about the harmful effects of alcohol coupled with ample supervision can be a big enough deterrent to alcohol use in youth.
